Arestin
Arestin is a controlled release antibiotic that can be used in conjunction with non-surgical periodontal treatment. Arestin contains minocycline, which is a tetracycline derivative. A very small syringe is used to deliver the Arestin into the infected periodontal pocket. The antibiotic stays in place for 21 days, slowly being absorbed by the body during the time period, killing the bacteria root debridement may leave behind. Arestin, used in conjunction with root debridement, helps to reduce the size and the number of periodontal pockets, as well as reducing the bleeding of the gums and improving the ability of your gums to attach to your teeth. Your hygienist will evaluate your periodontal condition to determine if you are a candidate for Arestin thereapy.
